SALAH/ PRAYER/ NAMAZ

Salah is an Arabic word that means to pray or bless. It also means "contact," "communication," or "connection".

PURPOSE AND IMPORTANCE

The primary purpose of Salah is to communication with ALLAH Purification of the heart is the ultimate religious objective. Via Salah, a believer can grow closer to ALLAH and in turn strengthen their faith. 

Salah is the second of the five pillars in the Islamic faith as daily obligatory standardized prayers. It is a physical, mental, and spiritual act to worship ALLAH that is observed five times every day at prescribed times. 

Each Salah is made up of repeating units or cycles called rakats. Singular of rakats is rakah. There may be 2 to 4 units. Each unit consists of specific recitations & movements.

The 5 daily prayers are obligatory on every Muslim who has reached the age of puberty (11 or 12 years), with the exception being those who are mentally ill, too physically ill for it to be possible, menstruating or experiencing postnatal bleeding. Those who are sick or otherwise physically unable to offer their prayers are permitted to offer their prayers while sitting or lying, as they are able.

Each of the five prayers has a prescribed time measured by the movement of the sun. Salah must be prayed in its time. If not then there must be a compelling reason preventing this.
